Professional Interview

When deciding your career there are many things you have to think about. For example you have to think about how much schooling is required, how much experience is needed, how it will payout for bills wise as well as how you can grow within that field. There are many ways to find this information and some ways may not be as accurate as you believe them to be. For this paper I found that I was more beneficial to do an interview from someone to get the most accurate information as possible. I’ve decided to go into the health and fitness industry as a personal trainer. For my interview, I had the amazing pleasure to interview Erica Johnson, who is a certified Master Personal Trainer.
The knowledge I was able to gain from Ms. Johnson was very helpful for me. She game me more insight of the career and what’s expected. She was able to tell me that as a personal trainer there are many things you do besides training someone how to work out. As a personal trainer you could be helping someone walk again, build more strength within one muscle group, working on fitness goals, working with body builders and so much more. As a personal trainers there are so many expectations being thrown your way that you would even think of. One main expectation as a personal trainer is to look the part. What I mean by that is if someone is coming in to get help to lose weight and ask for a trainer, they expect to see a trainer that’s in shape themselves. If a trainer comes up to them not in the best of shape, the trainer won’t be taken as serious as opposed to a trainer that is in shape. Ms. Johnson told me she once hired a trainer that was in between 266lbs to 300lbs. She had told him that it’s not going to be easy to get clients nor gain their trust as well. Being seen as a bigger trainer doesn’t show to clients as if they are healthy nor in any good shape themselves. Although with this particular trainer she hired, he wasn’t just a regular trainer, he was a power lifter. Which she said explained why he was bigger in weight than your average trainer you see. The responsibilities that come with being a trainer would be caring for others safety, teaching proper weight and equipment use, managing a goal for a client, and just being there to assist them with any other needs they may have.
To become a personal trainer you can have an associate, bachelors, or masters in kinesiology or and study of movement within the body. Besides those degrees, you can also have a certification of completion in the study of personal training. A certification is the fastest route you can go when trying to become a personal trainer. Speaking of, that is the route that I am choosing to go myself. There are so many programs you can go through in order to complete your certification. When choosing which program you have to think which one is within your price range, how well known is the program, the time frame you have to complete the certification and how you feel about the program in general.
